Backfire

Backfire deals moderate amount of damage and knocks enemies back.

Backfire was one of the earliest applications developed. A basic link between the DART chip and an inanimate object is established and certain function is executed. In this case the link is to a gun used by an enemy and the function is to change the timing of the trigger release, causing a misfire.

AGENT OPERATIONS MANUAL[]

/ Firmware.System.Merge

DART firmware has been updated. Offensive Application Backfire has been merged with main processor and subsystems.

Intel Feed[]

Application DnDP link causes the target's weapon to backfire, dealing a moderate amount of damage and knocking the enemy back.

This can be used to flush a hidden enemy out of cover.

/ Extension.tac: system_collapse

For 3 seconds after being affected by Backfire, the target takes double damage. This makes it easier to perform follow-up kills using the Application.

/ Extension.tac: chip_bounce

Weapon chip systems are inferior to military asset chips. The low firewall rating Backfire can affect up to two targets. It can be further upgraded with the Cerberus Targeting module to affect a third target.

Components[]

  • Chamber Patch: (25% more damage) This patch changes the timing on the misfire so that the trigger is released just as a round is about to enter the chamber. The misalignment causes fragmentation of the bullet, and so more severe injuries to the enemy.
  • Auto-Shot: (25% more damage) After applying this upgrade to the WP application, the DART chip actually sends a signal which puts the enemy weapon into auto-shot mode. Regardless of enemy action, a round will be fired, another one chambered and a misfire is triggered. Firing the first round often leads the enemy to look at his weapon, which is when the second round misfires. Severe injuries can be the result.
  • Perforator 3: (50% more damage) This application upgrade shapes the backfire explosion to generate a directional blast effect that shreds the weapon's operator with a hail of shrapnel. Injuries to the enemy are increased further.
  • Backfire v2.0: (1 additional target is affected) All attempts by Wulf Western to obtain EuroCorp's Cerberus backfire upgrade so far were without success. Attempts by Syndicate internal research staff to affect 3 or more weapons were unsuccessful land Backfire v2.0 represents the best Wulf Western engineers could come up with. Backfire will now affect 2 weapons, which is a step forward, but still inferior to Cerberus Backfire used by EuroCorp.
